A Common Misconception
It's important to note that the parts catalog is not connected to the parts in the templates library. A common misconception is that by creating all parts within the parts catalog and then using these parts to create assemblies, you can update your part catalog pricing and see changes reflected in the assemblies within the templates library. This is false.
Why Import Parts to the Parts Catalog?
The parts catalog is invaluable for changing the pricing of active assemblies or assemblies applied to a job. For example, if you're a painting contractor with 100 types of paint, creating 100 different assemblies would be impractical. Instead, you create a single "placeholder" assembly in the templates library. When you apply this assembly to a plan you can replace the paint part with the relevant paint type.
