1. Select the Appropriate Template

Open the Templates menu.

The Starter Package includes paint assemblies that can be measured using one of three methods:

  • Standard Linear

  • Wall Area Linear

  • Area

Select the assembly that best matches the surface you are estimating.


2. Measure Standard Linear Assemblies

Standard Linear assemblies are ideal for trim, baseboards, crown molding, door and window casing, and other linear paint applications.

To begin:

  1. Select the desired Standard Linear template.

  2. Click the green arrow to proceed.

  3. The initial setup page is preconfigured for you.

  4. Click Save and Go to Parts.

Adjust settings as needed:

  • Enter material costs, markup, and adjust waste percentage if applicable.

  • Under Part Properties, specify the Wall Height and Number of Wall Sides to be painted.

  • Adjust the Number of Coats for all paint parts as needed.


3. Perform the Standard Linear Takeoff

  • Click Save and Close to activate the measuring tool.

  • Click once to begin measuring.

  • Continue clicking along each run.

  • Double-click to complete the measurement.

  • Continue measuring additional runs as needed.

To finish:

  • Press the Esc key or click Stop to end the measurement.


4. Measure Wall Area Linear Assemblies

Wall Area Linear assemblies are designed to quickly calculate wall surface area from a linear measurement.

To begin:

  1. Select the desired Wall Area Linear template.

  2. Click the green arrow to proceed.

  3. The initial setup page is preconfigured for you.

  4. On the Assembly settings, specify the Wall Height and Number of Wall Sides.

  5. Click Save and Go to Parts.

Adjust settings as needed:

  • Enter material costs, markup, and adjust waste percentage if applicable.

  • Adjust the Number of Coats for all paint parts as needed in the part.


5. Perform the Wall Area Linear Takeoff

  • Click Save and Close to activate the measuring tool.

  • Click once to begin measuring.

  • Continue clicking along each wall.

  • Double-click to complete the measurement.

  • Continue measuring all applicable wall runs throughout the project.

To finish:

  • Press the Esc key or click Stop to end the measurement.


6. Measure Area Assemblies

Area assemblies are used for surfaces that are most efficiently measured by square footage.

To begin:

  1. Select the desired Area template.

  2. Click the green arrow to proceed.

  3. The initial setup page is preconfigured for you.

  4. Click Save and Go to Parts.

Adjust settings as needed:

  • Enter material costs, markup, and adjust waste percentage if applicable.

  • Adjust the Number of Coats for all paint parts as needed.


7. Perform the Area Takeoff

  • Click Save and Close to activate the measuring tool.

  • Click around the perimeter of each area you want to measure.

  • Double-click to complete the area.

  • Continue measuring additional areas as needed.

Helpful Tips:

  • Use Box Mode to quickly draw rectangular areas.

  • Use Subtract From Area to remove doors, windows, or other openings without redrawing the entire area.

To finish:

  • Press the Esc key or click Stop to end the measurement.


8. View Your Estimate

  • Navigate to Reports > Estimate.

  • Review calculated quantities, material totals and costs for your paint takeoff.
