Roofing Takeoff

Step 1: Select a Template

  1. Choose the roofing package.

  1. Identify the pitch of the roof on an eagle eye view plan.

You have two template options:

  • Standard Area

  • Roof Area Tool

Both produce the same result, but the pitch is set in different areas.

Step 2:

  1. Click the green button to begin setup.

  1. Depending on your template:

  • Standard Area

  1. The pitch will be located in the part.

  • Roof Area Tool

  1. The pitch will be located on the assembly level. You will add the pitch here.

Step 3: Go to Parts

  1. Click Save and Go to Parts.

If Using Standard Area:

  • Each part includes a pitch variable.

  • Click the “+” icon next to each part to adjust the pitch.

  • For underlayment, make any adjustments to coverage of roll.

For All Templates:

  • Adjust the waste percentage as needed.

  • For underlayment, make any adjustments to coverage of roll.

  • (Optional) Add cost and markup:

  • Click the “+” icon next to each variable.

  • Costs are typically entered by Square.

  1. Once all settings are complete, click Save and Close.

Step 4: Perform the Takeoff

  • The measuring tool will start automatically.

  • Trace each section of the roof, starting a new assembly/layer if pitches are different.

  • Using each area individually allows you to run the joist tool for framing, if needed.

Step 5: Finish Measuring

  • Press Escape on your keyboard or click Stop to end the takeoff.

Step 6: Generate Reports

  1. Navigate to ReportsEstimate.

  1. Review calculated quantities, including:

  • Shingles

  • Underlayment
