Introduction

In this guide, we'll explore the Square Takeoff Estimate Report, which is essential for generating detailed breakdowns of your assemblies and parts. This report is a powerful tool for estimating materials, labor, and other essential components of your project.

How to Implement the Estimate Report

  1. Navigating to the Estimate Report:

    • Start by applying assemblies to your plan. If you're unfamiliar with this process, refer to our "Getting Started with Square Takeoff" collection, specifically the article Running Your First Takeoff, a Comprehensive Guide.

    • Once your assemblies are in place, access the Estimate Report by selecting the Reports tab at the top of your screen and choosing Estimate.

  2. Understanding Assemblies and Parts:

    • The Estimate Report defaults to grouping by assembly. Each assembly includes a digitized measurement and the corresponding quantities of parts.

    • Assemblies are built from parts, which use formulas to calculate material quantities based on measurements. For more on this, check out our article on Fundamentals of Formulas

  3. Grouping Options in the Estimate Report:

    • Group by Part Number: Consolidates material quantities across different assemblies that share the same part number, useful for creating a bill of materials.

    • Group by Assembly: Displays the assembly name and its parts, ideal for a detailed view of each assembly.

    • Group by Location/Phase/CSI Division: These groupings are driven by part properties like location, phase, and CSI division, which must be set within each part.

  4. Setting Part Properties for Grouping:

    • To adjust properties like location or phase, double-click the assembly, select Update, and modify the part properties. Ensure these properties are enabled as inputs to appear in your report.

    • To learn more about setting these properties, explore the options under Edit on the part's estimating properties page.

  5. Exporting the Estimate Report:

    • The report can be exported in various formats, including Excel and PDF. Choose the desired grouping structure, then select Export to Excel or Print for a PDF version.

Common Questions

  1. Why is the Estimate Report not showing my location or phase groupings?

    • Ensure you've set the location, phase, or CSI division properties within each part. These groupings are based on the values assigned to these properties.

  2. How can I consolidate material quantities across multiple assemblies?

    • Use the Group by Part Number option to combine quantities of parts that share the same part number.
